According to expert forecasts, the upcoming 2026-2027 autumn-winter period in Kyrgyzstan is characterized by increased risks to the stable operation of the national energy system. Over the past five years, electricity consumption in the country has grown by 25%, placing additional strain on infrastructure during periods of peak temperatures.
In light of the anticipated tense situation, local authorities recommend that residents prepare in advance for the heating season and consider switching to modern, economical, and environmentally friendly heating systems.
Energy Challenges and Solutions
The Bishkek Thermal Power Plant (TPP), one of the main sources of heat supply, operates on outdated equipment that loses up to 50 percent of heat during transmission. Converting the thermal power plant to gas fuel could significantly improve the city’s environmental situation.
An alternative solution is the transition to decentralized heating systems. Thus, more than 13,400 subscribers have already switched to the services of “Bishkek Selmash,” where six modern gas boilers have been installed. This approach helps reduce the cost of heat production and provides an opportunity to revise tariff policy in the direction of reduction.
The transition to modern electric heating systems will not only reduce the load on the centralized energy system but also improve the environmental situation in cities and settlements of Kyrgyzstan.
Recommendations for the Population
Ahead of the 2026-2027 heating season, specialists recommend:
- Conduct an energy efficiency audit of residential premises
- Consider installing modern heat pumps
- Insulate building facades and replace windows with energy-efficient ones
- Use programmable thermostats to optimize heating costs
- Pay utility bills on time to avoid debts
A comprehensive approach to modernizing heating systems will allow residents of Kyrgyzstan to not only reduce heating costs but also contribute to ensuring the stability of the national energy system during periods of maximum load.
