The EU is ready to support Kyrgyzstan in the field of renewable energy, said European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Sikela at a meeting with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. During the talks held on March 17 at Yntymak Ordo, Sikela stressed that the EU is interested in supporting Kyrgyzstan in implementing renewable energy projects. He noted that the country has great potential for developing this area, and the European Union is ready to help implement initiatives that will bring sustainable and long-term results for the region.

President Japarov noted that the European Union has been a reliable partner of Kyrgyzstan since independence. He expressed confidence that the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement signed in Brussels in 2024 will be an important step in strengthening trade, economic and investment ties between the parties. Japarov also spoke about the positive changes in the economy of Kyrgyzstan, including significant growth in the state budget and GDP in recent years. He noted the importance of combating corruption and strengthening state institutions, as well as increasing trust in the judicial system.

The President proposed cooperation with the European Union in promoting green initiatives, such as the development of low-carbon technologies and the transition to renewable energy sources. Japarov also noted the importance of supporting initiatives for the sustainable development of the mountainous regions of Kyrgyzstan.

At the end of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Government of Kyrgyzstan, the European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which is aimed at developing irrigation technologies and increasing the country’s resilience to climate change.
